Health & Safety Officer

WasteServ through its Contractor - OZO Services is seeking to recruit a Health & Safety Officer.  

Position: Health & Safety Officer.    

General Overview of Responsibilities  

  • Assist the Health & Safety Manager to take all the necessary measures to ensure the Health & Safety at all times of all company employees who may be affected by the work being carried out for the Company; 
  • Provide assistance to ensure that all practicable measures are taken to prevent physical and psychological occupational ill-health, injury or death; 
  • Follow-up on the daily and/or weekly Health & Safety inspections carried out by the Health & Safety Leaders in order to ensure that any Health and Safety risks are adequately mitigated;
  • Review records of equipment pre-use checklists and, where applicable, ensure that corrective action is taken in order to safeguard company employees and others who might be at risk; 
  • Perform general or task-specific risk assessments, including but not limited to Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS), COSHH assessments, Display Screen Assessments, etc;
  • Issue Permit-to-Works (PTW) for high risk activities as per company Health & Safety procedures, and ensure that records of such PTW are adequately maintained;
  • Ensure that emergency drills are carried out at least once every 6 months for each work shift;
  • Review the weekly checks on the company’s emergency equipment performed by the Health & Safety Leader in order to ensure that such equipment is functional, easily accessible and located in its’ correct position;
  • Co-ordinate and/or give adequate health and safety training to workers and/or contractors on various health and safety related subjects and/or procedures;
  • Ensure that all workers are adequately vaccinated in accordance with Company Policy;
  • Carry out an investigation of all incidents occurring within the Company and keep records accordingly;
  • Co-ordinate and attend the regular Health & Safety meetings carried out throughout the year;
  • Co-ordinate with the respective service providers in order to ensure that the company’s equipment is duly certified as per the company schedule. 
  • Assist the Health & Safety Manager in the procurement of goods and/or services as may be required;
  • Represent the company during any internal and/or external health and safety audits;
  • Monitor the Health & Safety of any project being undertaken by the company;
  • Manage a team of Health & Safety Leaders;
  • Direct sub-ordinates in meeting their work objectives;
  • Assist the Health & Safety Manager in the implementation of the Company’s Health & Safety Management System as may be required.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Be in possession of an MQF Level 5 qualification in health and safety OR in possession of an MQF Level 4 qualification in health and safety and 1 year related work experience; 
  • Be Computer literate and proficient in common software packages; 
  • Have a clean Driving Licence; 
  • Have a clean Police Conduct.
