Lack of European legislation on landfill management has led to the creation of the Consortium for a Coherent European Landfill Management Strategy (COCOON). This Consortium has been tasked to develop, integrate and improve relevant policy instruments, while increasing subsidies through operational programmes (OPs) for landfill management projects.     

COCOON brings together seven partners from Belgium, Cyprus, Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Malta. Together, these partner regions will share and capitalise on regional good practices.
