Wasteserv’s Waste to Energy tendering process attracts bids from 16 different bidders

Wasteserv is delighted to note that the prequalification questionnaire for the ECOHIVE Waste to Energy plant has attracted 16 different bidders. Amongst these are some of the world leaders in the field. Each bid will now be evaluated meticulously and the 3 best companies/consortia will be shortlisted for the next procurement stage.

Malta is now a step closer to start benefiting from this multimillion euro investment that will see the island reach a new level of environmental performance.

The Waste to Energy plant is part of a comprehensive strategy to improve the waste sector in Malta through which all waste streams will be used to their maximum potential. In addition to the Waste-to-Energy plant, other plants such as an organic processing plant with agricultural compost production facilities and a fully-fledged material recovery facility for dry recyclables are also being developed. This work ties in with the overarching work being conducted by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning whom amongst other ambitious tasks is currently finalising a reformed Waste Management Policy.

CEO Richard Bilocca explained how this strong interest is witness of the robustness of the presented plan which will ultimately lead to concrete improvements in Malta’s overall quality of life.
