New WasteServ campaign aims to continue strengthening health and safety culture across the company

WasteServ continues to invest in its employees by launching a new internal educational campaign to reinforce a strong health and safety culture across its facilities.

The initiative introduces two fictional yet highly relatable characters, Wiġi and Ġiġi. Through their distinct personalities and everyday workplace scenarios, they will deliver key messages in a way that is engaging, memorable, and easy to understand.

Guided by the tagline “Listen to Wiġi, learn like Ġiġi”, the campaign seeks to encourage employees to reflect on their actions, adopt safer behaviours, and take greater responsibility for their own well-being, as well as that of their colleagues.

Praising the initiative, Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli said the campaign demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace standards and employee wellbeing.

”Promoting awareness and responsible behaviour in the workplace is essential, and initiatives such as this demonstrate a clear commitment to placing employees' wellbeing first. This campaign reflects sustained efforts not only to safeguard workers but also to strengthen workplace standards by embedding health and safety into everyday practices. We want our workers to remain healthy and safe whilst at work and beyond.”

WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca also highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture across all operations.

“Health and safety is not optional in the work we carry out, and our employees remain our top priority at all times. This campaign is designed to embed health and safety principles into everyday operations through consistent and recognisable messaging. Constant vigilance, adherence to procedures, and knowing how to respond in emergencies are essential elements of a safe working environment.”

The concept behind the campaign is to strengthen the way safety messages are conveyed by presenting relatable situations, with the aim of fostering a shared sense of responsibility among employees.

This campaign builds on the significant investment WasteServ has made over the years in fire prevention and firefighting systems, specialised equipment, and ongoing employee training. It complements these efforts by ensuring that knowledge is effectively translated into everyday behaviour.
